The youth club organized a gathering on Feb 15 at Honokaa Arena with the hope of recruiting new members. We had the arena open for schooling from 9:00 am for all members of HQHYA and HQHA. First we worked through the Green Western Riding pattern and then we set up some jumps for everyone to school over. Everyone was eager to practice and get ready for the upcoming show.
We asked that our youth members bring any interested friends to join us at 12:00p to see what our club is all about. Gabrielle Gleason invited two friends to come and learn about our club. I guess they liked what they saw because we now have two new members! Welcome Mary Campbell and Troy Wassman!!
We set up some fun obstacles in the arena and Gabbie, Troy and Mary had good fun with follow the leader and then rode some patterns. We also had a game of “decorate the horse”. We had two teams. Mary, Troy and Gabbie were one team and the other team consisted of two dads and a grandfather! (Thanks guys for being such good sports!) Each team was handed written instructions and given 10 minutes to “decorate” their horse. The instructions were things like “Paint a blue star on your horse’s barrel”, “Put a gold spot on the point of hip” and “Tie a green ribbon in the forelock”. “Ipo” George and “Rummy” Elledge were our very patient victims. Don’t worry, we used Halloween wash off spray paints and hopefully it all washed off! Good work Gabbie and we hope that you like the HQHA shirt that you won for signing up two new members to our club.
Our next gathering is going to be our annual meeting with the election of officers and some brainstorming about what we would like to do as a club this year. Watch for more information on this soon.
