HQHYA Paints Arena

Aloha all,

On May 1st we had an arena day, youth club meeting and painting party at Honokaa arena. A large group of riders gathered (see photo on HQHA web site) in the morning to work on riding patterns and trail obstacles. While these people rode, another group of HQHA members started painting the announcers stand. The county had cleaned and repaired the booth and asked if we would be willing to paint it, if they provided the paint...Absolutely!

There is some new footing in the arena too, so Honokaa is shaping up! After the morning activities, we broke for lunch and then we gathered for a talk by Susanella Noble, a certified natural balance hoof trimmer. She believes that with proper trimming and nutrition, horses do not need shoes! It was an interesting talk and  demonstration. Again, check out the pictures from this fun day at  www.hawaiiquarterhorse.org.   It was great having such a large group of youth in attendance. Thank to Kayla,Ikena,Rylie-Jo, Karli-Jo,Gabbie,Sierra,Julian,Hanna,Abby,Gracie,Valerie and Emily for attending. We also had three non-members join us to see what the club is all about...hope to see Keani,Sheylin and Shayce again at another gathering.

I am still working on organizing an English day of riding. If we do not support there English classes at the shows, there is a good chance that they'll be dropped ! There seems to be enthusiasm from the youth to support these classes, we just need to get everyone outfitted and comfortable in English tack and attire. please contact me if you want to try this and need anything. Let's do this!

Our "Chincoteague Connection" is happening!! The owner of the ponies has said that there is a mare do to foal soon and as soon as that happens, we can go visit these amazing ponies. If you have not read "Misty of Chincoteague" by Marguerite Henry, please try to read it soon. It is a great book and we'll be talking about this breed when we go to visit them.

I am still working on finding a place in Waimea where we can watch our new AQHA DVD's and have a movie meeting ,complete with popcorn and fun! Any ideas?

That is it for now. As always, please contact me with any questions or ideas for the club. Hope to see all of you soon, Laura
