MARCH 2, 2008
Our youth meeting took place during the lunch break at the arena day at Honokaa arena on March 2. A small but enthusiastic group was in attendance. We held our elections for the board and our 2008 board of directors are: President-Joshua Cox, Vice president-Tehani Grasso, Secretary-Mindy Silva, Treasurer- Gabby Gleason and our last board position is held by Daniel Cox. A big thank you to these devoted HQHYA members!
We are having a contest to come up with a logo for HQHYA. Some kids came up with ideas at the meeting and it was decided to extend the contest to allow more logo ideas to be submitted. A March 15 deadline was originally set to get logo drawings turned in, but because it has taken me so long to get this out (sorry!) I am extending the deadline to April 1. If you have any ideas for a logo, please get at least a rough draft of it to me by that date. If you have any questions or need some direction on this project, contact me at 885-7194 or email to: rosed012@hawaii.rr.com.
We had a very lively discussion about possible activities for this year. Some of the ideas that we came up with were a youth club sponsored trail ride, more games on horseback, some field trips to local horse facilities, a campout at Kalopa State Park, and possible involvement in the Honokaa Western Week activities and the Equine Symposium that the Humane Society is holding in August. We also talked again about the possibility of going to the mainland to watch a “big show” or even participating it the AQHYA World Show. There are a number of ways to get involved at this show without riding. There is a photo contest, art contests, jeans decorating and a scrapbook contests, to name a few. Any interest??
Please continue to donate your redeemable recycle items to the club. Daniel Cox has offered to spearhead this for 2008. I am confident that he is going to follow in his brother Jonathan’s footsteps and do a great job. Jonathan made almost $50 for us in 2007. Think about it…at $.05 a bottle that is a lot of bottles!! Thanks Jonathan and good luck Daniel.
We are always trying to increase our membership, so get out there and find more kids for the club…the more, the merrier!
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please get in touch with me. And remember…”RIDE WITH ALOHA”
